The Lifeguarding Instructor course trains instructor candidates to teach basic-level
Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Attendant, Lifeguard Management, CPR/AED for the
Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Bloodborne Pathogens
Training: Preventing Disease Transmission and Basic Water Rescue courses.  
Instructor candidates will also become familiar with GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow
and the Water Safety presentations.  Lifeguarding instructors can also become
Waterfront Lifeguarding or Waterpark Lifeguarding instructors by possessing a
basic-level certificate in the appropriate course and orienting to the corresponding
content in their instructional materials.  The instructor course requires successful
completion of a precourse skills and knowledge testing session, classroom activities,
practice teaching assignments, and written exams.

Instructor candidates are required to attend all parts of all days of the instructor course.

Prerequisites:
-- Be at least 17 years of age on or before the last scheduled day of the instructor
course.
-- Possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) certificate issued within the last
year or possess a current Health and Safety Services instructor authorization for
another Red Cross program (e.g., be a currently-authorized American Red Cross
Water Safety Instructor).
-- Successfully complete the precourse session, which includes successfully passing
the precourse written exam and demonstrating competency in the precourse skills and
scenarios evaluation.
